African Energy Leadership Webinar: Distributed Energy Resources

South Africa is in the midst of an electricity crisis with a projected shortfall of 4 000 MW of generating capacity in 2022. With load shedding having returned in March and further rolling black outs undoubtedly on the way, what recourse do South African businesses and individuals have?

Australia has enjoyed significant success with distributed energy resources (DER), notably rooftop solar as a cheaper and more resilient way of meeting the country’s energy needs. What can South Africa learn from the Australian experience?

Wits Business School’s Africa Energy Leadership Centre (AELC) is pleased to invite you to a webinar to discuss this with DER specialist Dr Gabrielle Kuiper from the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) in Australia. Dr Kuiper is an energy, sustainability and climate change professional with over twenty years’ experience in the corporate world, government and non-government organisations and academia.

For a South African perspective, Dr Kuiper will be joined by Mr Jacob Mbele, the Deputy Director General for Energy Programmes and Planning (EPP) at the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE), Ms Aradhna Pandarum, Senior Researcher in the Energy Centre of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), and Rentia Van Tonder, Head of Power at the Standard Bank Group.

Professor Lwazi Ngubevana, Director of the AELC, will moderate the discussion. Click here for speaker bios

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to explore DER as a way of tackling South Africa’s electricity crisis.
