WBS LEADERSHIP DIALOGUES | A Conversation with SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) performs a critical public service, but in the last decade has been mired in controversy. From a sluggish and inefficient government department to a streamlined and modern organisation to political interference and allegations of corruption, SARS has seen it all.

WBS hosted a conversation with Edward Kieswetter, Commissioner of SARS, who rejoined SARS in 2019 and is witness to the many highs and lows of the organisation. Edward formerly served as the founding Group Executive of the SARS Large Business Centre and High Net Worth Unit, SARS Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Commissioner during the period 2004 to 2009. He then led the successful turnaround of the Alexander Forbes Group where he served as Group Chief Executive between 2010 and 2016. He is the recipient of numerous awards and is a committed social activist.

Mr Edward Kieswetter was in conversation with Mills Soko, Professor of International Business and Strategy at WBS.
