Johannesburg - The Wits Business School (WBS) is pleased to announce that Mr Zunaid Bulbulia has joined the School as an Adjunct Professor from 1 November 2016.

A chartered accountant and a Wits graduate, Mr Bulbulia is currently an independent consultant to the telecommunications industry with a number of clients across the continent of Africa. He is also a non-executive director of Huge Telecommunications Group (Huge Telecom), listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), as well as an advisory board member to the Kirusa Group headquartered in New Jersey.

Prior to this, he spent 22 years with the MTN Group, starting his career as a Financial Analyst and General Manager before becoming Financial Director of MTN SP and, in 2005, Chief Financial Officer of MTN South Africa. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN South Africa in May 2013, and Group Chief Operations Executive in August 2014, a position he held until December 2015. In this role, he was responsible for the operational, financial, technical and commercial performance of 19 operating companies within the MTN Group.

“We are delighted to have Mr Bulbulia on board. He is a high calibre leader who brings with him significant experience of what it means to do business in Africa. This fits in with WBS’s aim of developing business leaders who are equipped with the right knowledge and skills to take on the complex challenges of our continent,” says Steve Bluen, Head of School. “His insights and understanding in this regard will be an invaluable contribution in a number of areas of study, among them digital business, finance, leadership, and mergers and acquisitions, and African business.”

Mr Bulbulia describes his leadership style as “collaborative”, and is looking forward to working with WBS faculty in advancing the School’s vision of growing bridges between business, government, civil society and organised labour, to address issues critical to socio-economic development on the African continent.

“As a leading African business school, WBS can play a significant role in the economic growth and development of South Africa and Africa. I am very excited by the opportunity to contribute to WBS’s Africa-focused programmes and initiatives. It will be an honour to share the lessons I have learnt, particularly in the telecommunications field,” says Bulbulia.
