Post - Covid Economic Recovery: Challenges and Opportunities

A year of lockdown has dealt a major blow to South Africa’s economy which was already failing pre-Covid. Now that the country finds itself back on Level 1, most of the restrictions on economic activity have been removed.

But this comes at a time when the government will have to fund a massive vaccine rollout, and as the country faces a record unemployment rate and a probable third wave of the pandemic.

Against this background, how will South Africa emerge from this crisis and start to rebuild its economy?

Maurice Radebe, Director and Head of Wits Business School, invites you to attend the next in our series of WBS Leadership Dialogues, in which our panellists will give their perspectives on the critical next steps to South Africa’s economic recovery.

Our esteemed panellists:

  • Dr Lumkile Mondi - Lecturer in Economics, School of Economics & Finance, Wits University
  • Mr Martin Lawrence Kingston - Executive chairman at Rothschild & Co; board member of Business Unity South Africa (BUSA)
  • Professor Nhlanhla Nene - Former Minister of Finance & Non-Executive Director - Grobank

Facilitator: Professor Maurice Radebe
